It seems every KS2 primary school teacher in December is in need of Christmas activities, ideas and investigations, so we put our elves to work to find you the 10 best Christmas activities suitable for your KS2 pupils at this time of year. Unsurprisingly, because it’s us, our initial focus is around Maths. And then, given the importance of wellbeing for children receiving our 1-to-1 Maths lessons we’ve also included a couple of brilliant wellbeing activities within this list too, not just for your pupils but for teachers too.
It’s important that you take the time to reflect on the really amazing work you do every day, and you’ve done this term, just by getting to the end of it!
In no particular order, have a read of our favourite KS2 Christmas Activities and Resources for Maths and Wellbeing.
1. Christmas Maths Challenge Activities and Christmas Maths Worksheets
The Mathematics Shed, run by Graham Andre, is a great place to find engaging and effective activities across KS1 and KS2. The Seasonal Maths Shed has fabulous activities for every holiday. The activities cover multiple strands of Maths and are easy to edit, depending on the needs of your pupils. Addition, subtraction, percentages and mental Maths are just a few of the topics covered.

2. #Teacher5aday Advent and Christmas Calendar
You may have already heard of the #teacher5aday movement which encourages teachers to take care of their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. Based on the same premise, this year there’s a holiday version in the form of a Well-Being Advent Calendar that we love!
The activity includes 24 days of well-being to make your December joyful. Each morning a new window is opened which you can find on Twitter or on the blog. Each activity is designed to offer you encouragement, support and useful advice to help you stay positive right through to Christmas Day.
3. Christmas 12 Joys of Teaching 2017
Over the past few years Claire Lotriet has been sharing her 12 Joys of Teaching. Each day you’re encouraged to take part on Twitter and on Facebook and participate in the daily activity, focusing on gratitude and appreciation. A great lesson for teachers and pupils of any age!
Join in on Twitter using the hashtag #12JOT and let us know what you’re grateful for before 2017 comes to a close. You can easily get your class involved by asking them to reflect on what they’re appreciative of while encouraging them to reflect on the term. A massive thumbs up from us.

7. Christmas Maths Murder Mystery
Mr Barton Maths is probably already on your must read list, but the Maths Christmas Activities and Resources section is a particular lifesaver during this point in the year. The section includes top Maths Christmas resources from the TES Maths website (secondary as well as primary).
Our top pick from Mr Barton’s selection is the Christmas Maths murder mystery, guaranteed to be a crowdpleaser. Pupils are given a set of clue cards which define the task – of finding out who killed Santa – and give them all the necessary information to solve the mystery. A really nice fun Christmas activity to encourage problem solving skills best suited to upper KS2.

8. Putting on a Christmas show?
We couldn’t resist including this one, even if it’s from last year. Struggling while you’re organising your school’s Christmas play? Mr P understands and his video shares all struggles we’ve all experienced when putting on a show.
Remember that Christmas carol you loved before you agreed to organise your school’s nativity? Not anymore after rehearsing it for the upteenth time. What about props falling midway through? You can handle a Christmas tree tumbling down as long as you’re prepared for it and have accepted it. Be prepared for the technology to go wrong, half of your cast to be off sick and your Christmas play production to be one of your proudest moments this year.
If you like classroom laughs and learning technology and don’t already follow ICT with Mr P on Facebook you’re missing a trick.
